In today’s world, we often get caught up in our day to day operations and remain stagnant within our own lives. Due to this we’ve routinely forgot to look beyond our narrow field of vision and think about those around us. In one instance the Bible gives us many examples of how to go beyond this tunnel vision through definitive scripture about a good man.
Take a look first at Proverbs 12:10, “A righteous man regards the life of his beast”. One could interpret this verse through many different perspectives. One overarching theme, however, is in regards to animal treatment and animal cruelty. Another perspective on this verse is that not only disregarding your animal but not treating them with the right amount of care is also not on the path of becoming a righteous man or woman. With this in mind there are several options in which you could follow the scripture to become a better man or woman. Within your community there is probably an animal shelter or animal hospital that needs any extra help than is available. Take day at your weekend volunteer few hours to show the animals that you care and you’re there for them. This will go a long way in following the path of a righteous man and woman. Back in 2013 the Coca-Cola Company released an article entitled “7 Reasons Pets Make Us Happy and Healthy”. The article goes into details on how happy animals benefit us in both the short term and the long term. It is a symbiotic relationship between us treating our “beasts” well that in turn treat us well too.
Another bible verse that goes along the lines of the path of the righteous man is Mark 12:31 “Love your neighbor as yourself”. Such a powerful verse has this as a deeper meaning than what is just written. Even a simple task as simply saying ‘hi’ to your neighbor when you get home shows them that you care. Your neighbor might be there when you’re in a time of need and vice versa. Building a good relationship with your neighbors both at home and at work will make you a better person in the days to come. It isn’t about yourself, it’s about being there when people around you need you. While not being there when others are in need makes people see you as spiteful and self-centered. So, if at any time you see someone who could use your assistance, take the time out of the day to show them what it means to you to love your neighbor as yourself. Psychology today wrote an article in 2017 about the concept of loving your neighbor. The article goes on to say that within ourselves is a community of cells that is working in conjunction with one another on a daily basis. It is certainly a most interesting read, and one should take the time to, at least, give it a glance.
